Stuck on "Connecting Steam Account" please help?

Hi so I've been desperately trying to log into Steam for the past 3 hours to no avail. I can only login through my browser. All it says is "Connecting Steam Account" and hangs there. If I make it let me type in my password and do the confirmation code Steam just disappears and sits in the background doing nothing. I've tried just about every fix I can find but none of them work. I even went through the trouble of installing Windows on another Harddrive and I still can't login.
I thought it might have been Steam Guard because I can login to my second account that confirms through email just fine but even disabling that doesn't fix it.

Any ideas?

I had a similar issue where i couldn't log into my main account, but my alt worked just fine. Except my problem was that after I logged in, the login interface goes away and i can't access steam, even though the task manager shows it running in the background.

I fixed this by backing up my steamapps folder, uninstalling steam completely, then doing a clean install and putting my steamapps folder back where it belongs. Hopefully this helps.

That's strange, it seems we had the same issue and i thought for sure that would work. Does your alt still log in just fine after the install?

My alt has no issues logging in period. Only my main account.

is it still running steam from your main drive? try uninstalling steam from that main drive and then reinstalling it again (back up your steamapps folder first to keep your game data).
