I changed the monitor and now Steam eats vram.
Switched from a 1080p monitor to a 4K monitor with FreeSync, and now the Steam client severely impacts VRAM.
My poor GTX 1060 has lost 1.1 GB... :lunar2019shockedpig:

Is this normal?

If you're trying to do 4K, then yes.

Oh, nevemind, I fixed this by disabling the GPU accelerated rendering on the Steam interface option.
But this is really strange :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

It should not have to be thought about that running more processes requires more power, more RAM. Of course turning an acceleration option on is going to use more RAM, of course attempting to run 4k resolutions is going to use more RAM, CPU, GPU and voltage.

Running 4k resolutions is foolish in my opinion. There are only very few games that actually have 4k resolution graphics included in them. I can't help but to roll my eyes at some people who attempt running 4k resolutions on games that don't have it that create threads curious as to:

- It doesn't work.
- The computer is locking up / the game crashes.
- I don't see a difference "fix this game!"
- I have 4k monitor and GPU but the game don't have 4k option settings. How do I run 4k settings?

...duh...
Too many people weren't there when they were handing out common sense.

^ Not my case ;)
I see a huge benefict on games, since all my games support 4K resolution, and many of them have also 4K textures inside. They works like a charm on a pretty solid 60 fps.
Just waiting for the RTX 3060 release and I can play on Ultra settings again.

what are you checking vram usage with?

each 1080p display will use about 16mb for buffers, 4k = about 64mb

check using gpuz
