Problem with redeeming orange box key

So Im trying to redeem the orange box on steam but i own all the games on it, I am trying to redeem it because you get a free hat on TF2 for doing so. But it says that "This Steam account already owns the product(s) associated with this activation code. Click next to proceed to installation" Do I just delete all the games?

If you want to waste the box for a hat, can you not give the game to a real friend and make sure he trades you the hat? That way its no waste and you get the hat.

Note: This is an idea, i dont know about the hat
