Download speed 2Mb/s but normally 30Mb/s
Hello I know there are a lot of other discussions talking about this but did never get a good answer. My problem started on my old computer where I suddenly got 2Mb/s on steam but I would normally get 30Mb/s. Sometimes it was fixed by me taking in an out the LAN cable, but that would only work for 2 minutes or so. I thought it had something to do with my LAN cable, but I still got over 30Mb/s on rockstar game launcher for an example. I couldn't fix the issue and I later build a new computer and switched my internet cable. This is happening again. I know it's not the CPU that's limited and I don't know what is going on.

files can be supercompressed , and server service matter, if you DL and lesser frequent access files then you will get a slower dl rate, this is know as server access and how many ask for the file and it make sense, but it still depend on your pc and its cpu and free storage on a disk old windows rule 10% most be there and more for the files and installation.

huge performance diffrence in laptop and desktop. ( watchout for pre-allocation and download menu in what doing what, many mix them up.) same can be said with steam menu dl . show in bits and not bytes.

rest is test for bad packets, and maybe get a friends laptop pc to test network connection.

dont forget update router and network drivers. ( even reboot them and pc 3 minute after )
just to rule out own network issue, maybe wallplug is RJ-45 then you might bypass own router to test its not router that doing this.

( try skyrim SE or other high end games you have, they seem to have a higher service delivery priority )

also know as steam only, not other game clients

It's also possible that your ISP has an interconnection shortage at peer exchange nodes, those are known as peering issues and can have various factors (i.e. congestion, net neutrality issues, lack of viable peering agreements). Usually, those issues are of a temporary nature.

If you believe it is an issue on Valve's side, try changing your download region to one that would locally be nighttime.

hmm we only still try to help ( seem to be a free room on harddisk sametime )
dont forget many dont known the dump to harddisk issue , and they all look like SSD disk
you might be better of with huge slave disk drev ( games disk hard drevs most of us has such slave disk none SSD that can contain huge/many games most newer pc have 3tb+ disk )
and you will see how write to disk matters and how fast they can dump data to bigger drives

and not all SSD specification is best. imo you might want to try a disk with in 1000kr imo.
they are not that bad compare to small SSD, i bet you even support usb3.0 sata6

this look like classic debat 10% free on each disk as minimum always. or you will suffer speed reductions sametime. ( many dont know harddisk looking for free spots. problem is consolidation data on SSD is not recommended as we use to do on slave drive with apps like defrag. but now topic is change to debat disk issue sametime, and that was not intended, but your choise and what you will do is up to you. ) i only think thats might be the issue sametime, but it goes so fast and you need both type of disk to test such. ( and watchout for other apps access disk see windows task manger and who and what doing read and write on disk sametime that other app dont steal its performance sametime. last user notice a app doing other things sametime and dl or multi access on same disk cause write issue.

as you see you need to be a expert to know alot of this, most gamers are. but to ID and deal with it, can be hard

and dont forget drivers, even that is seen before.
see iobit driver booster after you have checked original suport website first.
