External Drive keeps freezing while installing games
Hi,
i stopped Windows from shutting down my hard drive through the configuration panel, I deleted everything and cleaned my new external SSD as much as I can.

I still have problems with Steam and my SSD. It happens with Origin as well. Everytime I want to install a game, Steam freezes and I have to (force) disconnect and reconnect the SSD to pursue the download. Which happens after 25Mo or 13Go or so of files downloaded.

It makes me crazy, do you have any clue to provide me ?
Thank you very much for your help.

At a guess you're runnning a laptop on battery only so when you add any load to the power it turns off.
Plug in the AC so it has continous power. see if that fixes it
The AC is plugged, I've already installed some games, but larger ones (80go or so) are a pain in the ass, imagine yourself pluging again and again your ssd (and damaging it) every 200mo !
Yes I've already done that, it really drives me crazy ! I've seen posts here on Steam where people are saying all their Libraries are in an external Hard Drive. That's so unfair !
I managed to install a few games, smaller ones, but I had to plug and unplug the SSD a few times even for a 2go game

No that's something I didn't touch. Do you mind giving me a quick guide to access this USB Roothubs ? I'm French, French laptop, so I'm not sure where to look at first.
Nevermind, I found it ! I'll try to install a game after unchecking it

Edit : the same problem occurs

im having this issue now, i cant seem to fix it at all. whats going on?
Do external disk work in other pc, either you confirm you have cable or disk issue or you pc is causeing it if it do work at other pc.
This thread was quite old before the recent posts, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
