Will games during multiplayer, lag whilst downloading a large file over Ethernet?
I know over WiFi there will be huge spikes, but is the same for Ethernet? I download at a maximum of 9.7 MB/s. So say I wanted to play a game of Dota 2 whilst downloading 40GB (Will take an hour and a half to download) will it spike up my ping or will it be the same since it's ethernet? Thanks

it doesn't matter what u using if u downloading something it going to try to use your full internet speed while playing just limit download speed if it lags.

Hmm, so if I download it at a lower speed, gaming should be fine? How much would I need to limit it by if I want to download and play at a dcent ping?

Wifi or ethernet will still try to use maximum bandwidth and the resources required to download/upload data. Only way it would not affect you is if you could cap the download speed so it leaves sufficient bandwidth for Dota 2 plus any comms.

I'd say cap at 8MB/s should leave more than enough.....To be sure you could monitor network activity whilst playing Dota 2 and you'll see what it uses. Then deduct the maximum it uses from your 9.7MB/s and you'll have an exact figure that should maximise your DL speed.
