Use less than 0.5GB of memory for a client that just has to sit there.
Might be a good idea - save on those system requirements for the actual games.

My Steam client uses a whole 33 MB of RAM currently.

36MB for me boi
150 MB ...+ 3x Steamwebhelper with 50 mb (sum) = 200MB ram used by steam ...
Do you have any skins active?
default steam, in small view mode.
interresting enough. when I use small view mode steam uses 30 mb more and after switching back, it is back to 150 mb

You make a good point Bearkins, Steam has become bloatware, and there are better places to buy games now anyway.

It's not that resource intensive. I find it uses about as much as Origin but less than Uplay and a bit more than GOG Galaxy.

You should go for whatever legit retailer is selling what you want for the lowest price, but if you do that you run the risk of not getting a refund as most of the competition has a worse or no refund policy

Most luckily doesn't include GOG

Well the down side with GOG's return policy is that it only covers games you can't get to work compared to Steam that allows for refunds for things like not liking the game or it going on sale after purchase. They also make you try a bunch of things like contacting the developer before they decide the game is not actually working for you

GOG's policy is no refunds unless we can't get it to work on your PC. How is that better than Steam?

Steam.exe goes 2.2Gb before finally imploding :steamfacepalm:

The beta client uses 94.4MB across all its processes.

I just love how steam uses less than 1% of my whole pc memory :) :denton:

Chrome open to Google, sitting idle takes 159.9MB alone. Steam being a modified chromium browser is light compared to a full fledged browser.
by the way, simply revoke access for everyone on the steamwebhelper.exe, so the browser is simply disabled ... (located in steam/bin/cef/<cef.yourOS>/steamwebhelper)
you might have to use the advanced interface
