Have you tried using a different controller or a different USB cable?
I don't have another controller and yes I tried the other port.
The driver in System Preferences shows it's working fine so it is a Steam software problem.
The controller setup system is broken.
Hmm...
Which file did you attempt to edit? I play with a Playstation4 controller and I first have to pick if i want to set controls for big picture mode, the windows desktop or a game. Then, with each 'mode' I can either go through my locally saved personal config files (if I made those), browse through community uploaded configs, or pick from standard templates that vary from 'standard gamepad' (or something like that) to "WASD and mouse emulation" (or again... something like that).
If I'm perfectly honest, I would just deïnstall Steam, make sure any traces of controller config files are deleted, and reïnstall steam. Save yourself the hassle of getting everything back to normal manually.
Very annoying. Basically I made a complete mess of pressing the right buttons on my first attempt to set it up.
I suspect if I re-install Steam it will retain the association of the gamepad with my profile where the button bindings have been saved.
Given there is no option to rebind the keys and the association with this game pad, there is now no way to correct the B button to be bound to 'b1'.
Thanks for your help guys. I can still play emulators and none-Steam games but Steam is less compatible the Kega Fusion it seems (which has no probs).
Maybe a future update will fix this but for now, the controller setup is nicht so gut and I won't be able to use the gamepad.
Steam, why you so half arsed?
