Close Steam to continue Installation
I've been trying to install Steam today but when I do it gives me the error "Close Steam to continue installation." Is this something on my side or steam's side? I'm installing it for the first time on this PC. :steamsad:

There should be no process, and there isn't, as I am trying to install it freshly.

Ok, so then do you know how I would disable the process?

From the task manager. You can also start your system in safe mode and delete the existing Steam folder.

I don't think you guys understand. There should be no traces of Steam on my PC except for the installer, as I am fresh installing it on this PC, never installed before.

Well, post the FULL list of processes at the moment of this error message appearing.

There was a recent update to steam, and there is a simple fix, without having to delete anything.

1. Click Steam (in the tools bar)
2. Check for Steam client Updates...
3. Reset Steam
4. Log back in

If this worked, or did not work, please let me know; it does not delete anything. It is just logging out for an update.

Don't want to assemble links. If the forum removes them, then I don't want to go there. If the forum doesn't remove them, then there's no point fragmenting them.

Yeah it didn't work because nobody can read the part that says "I'm installing it for the first time on this PC."

Everybody, I'm sorry if I sounded a little rude in my replies. But, for the 10th time restarting my PC and downloading the Steam installer, it finally worked! Thanks for your time to read, reply, and help me try to fix the issue.

For future reference, if anyone should battle with the same problem of installing freshly on a new PC: DO NOT save the install file "SteamSetup.exe" as "Steam.exe" as this will cause the "Close steam to continue installation" message to appear. Naturally, it would seem there should be no executable running named "Steam.exe".

This had me stumped for the better part of an hour before I ran the setup file as SteamSetup.exe
