My latest playthrough I've tried to stick to in game hints. First, craft the tools you're capable of in the fabricator. Specifically, craft the repair tool and fix the lifepod. This will energize the communications relay, which will start producing signals to lifepods in the area.
One lifepod has a compass. Two of the lifepods are next to wrecks which have the seamoth fragments along with the mobile bay vehicle. The seaglide fragments I've found both in wrecks by lifepods, as well as in random wrecks I've seen in transit to the signals.
But the designers have given you ways to get these items.
The only things I haven't seen much help for is finding a diamond so you can craft a laser cutter, and there's a hint in the communications relay regarding a landmass, but I don't find it helpful or accurate, and like Lonewolverine said, you'll need the repair tool and the laser cutter to access some of the rooms in the wrecks.
Also, make sure you have fins and extra oxygen tanks. I usually have 3 - 1 in my cutout, and 2 in inventory. That will help when searching wrecks.
I hope that helped.
