Playing Steam game with my kid

I don't see any obvious feature that helps, and I see a bunch of stuff that doesn't.

My use case is I want to download a game (right now, Peekaboo) and play it with my son, who is nearly 6, in the same room and on the same LAN.

• He's too young to join Steam (minimum age 13),
  
• he doesn't have an email address,
  
• I can't buy two copies of the game, and
  
• I can't play two instances of one purchase on the two PCs.
  
  There must be other parents out there who want to have supervised play with their kids on or offline.
  
  How are you supposed to do this? Or are you not supposed to do this?
  
  How are other people doing this—or something like it?

Just to clarify, you don't have to be 13 to use Steam. You have to be 13 to create your own Steam account. Valve makes it clear that parents are welcome to make an account with their child and offers the tools to protect them online (Steam family view)

We encourage you to create a Steam account with your child. If there are features of Steam that you would like to exclude from the experience, you can restrict access using Family View. You may also choose to enable Family View on your own Steam account if you would rather they share your Steam Account.

Either check your games that has local coop or local multiplayer support that's appropriate for your child, and you can play.

Look for free to play games If you don't want to spend money.

You can make account, and email for your child if you want, but it's your responsibility to monitor what your child does of course, and to manage the account yourself until he hits the age of 13 really, but still recommend to monitor your child.

Create a mail address on Gmail or something, create a Steam account and use Family View. You do have to purchase 2 copies, though.
