Trading Cards Disabled For Free To Keep Games...how does this work?
Does it just disable initial drops? Does it disable future booster drops? Can I grab them off the market? Really bummed that this was one of their solutions to ♥♥♥♥♥♥ asset flip spam and bot spam but is what it is...I might skip the freebie for Regions of Ruin if it means no cards ever for me, I like collecting cards when I can :V

Cards don't drop. Otherwise you can trade, buy, sell, etc just as before.

this wasn't a response from valve towards "asset flips", as getting valve to do a free weekend event for games is something you need to request valve to set up and in most cases they deny it unless you are an established dev/publisher.

it was however a response to card farming bots, that would eventually get these games (no cost) an mass, and sell these cards on the market. they shortly after that also applied it to the curator packages.

there you go, now you learned something new.

nobody is preventing you from removing a license from your account and then repurchase it.
sounds strange? you probably did not think of this but you can add these no cost games and then remove it from your account once you feel like you this badly want the card drops effect and then buy it of the steam store or a website that sells a key (at a discounted price or full price).

granted you think that would be cheaper than just buying the cards from the steam market and craft the 5 levels and the 1 level foil badges.
simple logic would probably state that getting the game as a no cost, then buying the cards would save you so much trouble and effort and maybe even also money.

Pro tip: get games for the sake of getting games. Treat cards (and all other side gigs) as side gigs.

That doesn't answer my question re: booster drops, but knowing one can buy/trade/sell is at least something.

I didn't think of it because its literally a net loss for the user :/
And again; didnt answer my question; does it affect BOOSTER DROPS?

Pro tip: I was asking regarding the side gigs out of curiosity.
I enjoy a thing. I'm allowed to enjoy a thing that you don't enjoy. I'm also allowed, as a free consumer, to vote with my wallet for or against something I do (or do not) like that impacts that thing.

Pro tip: Don't try to tell other people how to live their lives :cfacepalm:

If you're not eligible for cards drops, then you're not eligible for booster packs.

i thought that was implied.. how do you not know, you only trigger booster packs after you have finished getting the remaining card drops? when your are not able to get card drops how are you going to trigger the flag being able to get booster packs for that game?

i know, it sounds like rocket science, maybe even sci fi like but it is what it is.

Eon,

Did you find a solution other than buying the cards on the Steam Market?

I was thinking about permanently deleting the game from the account and buying the game, paying for it.

That would be your only option if you want the few drops that come with a paid game.

I'd personally just get all the cards from the Market.

Going that route doesn't grant booster chance for those that care. The only way to get "everything" is to remove and buy.

I never mentioned boosters.

I tested the procedure of permanently deleting the game from the library and repurchased the game. Now my account is eligible to receive trading cards. In the list of badges, the game for receiving cards appears. :crtgoofy:
