Account may be compromised and someone is trying to remove it to allow them more freedom to screw with your account.

Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey
Scan for Malware/virus https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/
Deauthorize all devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Change your Account password on a secure device, mobile phone for example.
Generate new back up codes https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage

Be sure to revoke the Api Key (if you have one) before you change password as if someone has your Apikey they can still access your account/parts of it. So revoke the Api key first.

If the SMS had a link it code be a fake and trying to get you to install some malware or have you enter login details on a phishing site. Can ignore the SMS if you do the stuff above anyway so don't click any links if it has one.

looking at your name history, it was not for "no apparent reason". You've logged into shady sites, your account was compromised. Follow Suicidal Monkey's post above.
