When using Steam Link, holding the back button on Xbox One controller brings up an overlay on screen bottom.
So, when I am streaming to my TV using Steam link, when I hold down the Back button on the Xbox One controller I use, some mini-overlay comes up on the bottom with options to stop steaming, and icons for controller, mouse and keyboard, etc. Is there some way to disable this? The game I am playing has its own function for holding down that button which I can't use because of this.

To be clear, I am NOT talking about the normal steam overlay that would come up when you hit shift + tab on your keyboard where you can send invites and stuff. This is something different.

On your Steam Link, go to Settings -> Streaming, then press Y for “Advanced Options”. The last option on the list is called “Controller Overlay” and is the one you want to change. I set mine to “Guide Button” so that now holding down the Xbox button brings up the bottom-third overlay, while just pressing it continues to open the Steam guide as normal. You can also just set it to “Disabled.”

This works for me while streaming Control. When I pick up intel, now I can hold the Back button to open the menu and go directly to that piece of intel.

Hope this helps. My Steam Link is running build 775 BTW.

I'm also having this problem.

Bumping this to hopefully get an answer. I'm playing Final Fantasy VIII Remaster, and I have to hold down the back button to boost certain attacks; but I can't, because this lower-third overlay pops up!

I'm having the same issue and it seems that no one has found a solid solution. I don't understand why Valve implement these functions that seem to be of no benefit to the user. Another annoyance that comes to mind is the default automatic optimization during the launch of Steam Link.

Yeah it's still really really annoying in GTA V I guess they assumed no one would be holding the back button.

For anyone arriving here in 2024 like I did:

Steam (desktop) -> Settings -> Remote Play -> Enable Advanced Client Options -> Controller Overlay

Frankly, it's ridiculous that the default config assumes games aren't going to call for holding the back button. This is a common use case. Good luck out there!

So from my experience how I fixed it the controller itself had a turbo function and cleared it when it was disabled
