Steam Audio wont play through tv.
Ive tried troubleshooting this for days, but I cant get it working. My laptop is connected to the tv via an hdmi cable, Ive tried setting the tv as the default device, none of it works. Any other audio works fine, its simply steam that wont run the audio through to the tv.

What do you mean Steam audio?
- Music player?
- Sound that big picture mode makes?
- Voice chat?
- Videos?

Any sort of game audio, it plays only through the laptop speakers.

If the game has audio settings to choose which output source then manually choose your TV audio in the game settings.

Ensure HDMI is properly plugged in all the way, for both TV, and Laptop.

You could try this, while connected to your TV, relaunch Steam, and test, or restart laptop, connect to tv first, then launch Steam.

Im thinking it might be the cable itself, I havent tried that yet. I should note any other audio plays, its simply steam and any other games that dont.

Do you have any 3rd party audio manager?

Did this happen by update, like Windows update, or client update?

If by Steam update the issue suddenly occur, then few things you can give a try, no guarantees.

- Run Steam as Admin.

- Try opt in, or out of Steam beta, top left corner, click on Steam > settings > account > click on button change, and either opt in, or out of beta.

- Reinstalling Steam, to keep games, and screenshots, head to where you install Steam, move these two folders, "Steamapp" and "Userdata" move these two folders outside the Steam folder, once done that, uninstall Steam, ensure Steam folders gone, if not delete it, then reinstall Steam, run it to download client, don't login just exit out of Steam, move back the "Steamapp" and "Userdata" folder back into Steam folder, if ask if want to replace click yes, and now launch Steam, and test to see if issue resolved.

Not much I can tell you beyond this, as IDK why it's not playing audio to your TV.
