Connecting XBox 360 Wireless Controller To a Samsung Smart TV

I was wondering if anyone could please help, I am pretty new to Steam and one of the reasons I use Steam is my Samsung Smart TV which has the Steam Link App which I have set up etc.
The problem is with the XBox 360 Wireless Controller, when I open the Steam Link and connect to my PC through the Smart TV and eventually I open the settings section to the controller options, my controller does not link to the app, I use the search button on the controller but the Steam App simply cannot register the controller.
Can anyone help, either I am missing a step or its simply an app issue, although in the Steam app details it does state that this controller will work.
