PlayStation classic controller freaking out on steam

If i press one directional button on the steam ui, it acts as if im pressing all the buttons on the directional pad. Any fix to this?

what controller exactly?
orig ds2 using parallel adapter and dpadpro/psxpad works fine

Pretty sure OP is referring to the new PS controller that comes with PS Classic mini console, which is a new design and comes in USB, however it lacks the full # of controls of a DS3, DS4, Xbox type of controller so honestly I wouldn't bother using it. Just go buy a Wired XBO controller if on a tight budget.

Nah im not, its for experimental. Figjting games. I use a standard ps1 controller in tournaments, just wanted to see how it works on here. It's pretty good, until its ui time

It works well with joy2key. But yeah going to continue using the ps1 pads that work with brooks converters

Same issue here. It’s a shame, I was really looking forward to using this controller on Steam. Any way to configure the controller without BPM to get it to work with Steam?

The PS Classic controller won't make sense anyways since they don't even have all of the controls like a DS3 OR DS4 controller has

For classic games (the reason I want to use the controller) or games that don’t use analog sticks, this controller can be used.

It's just not going to work properly on pc without 3rd party software though, why bother

It does, just not on Steam for some reason. I’m sure there’s a way to get it to work without third-party software. Is there a way to fix it manually with the config.vdf file?

I’m getting closer to fixing this, and I found the problem. I tried to edit the config.vdf file, but it reset itself. However, this allowed me to do my configuration for the controller again. The problem was with the axes. There are only two axes detected, 0 and 1, for X and Y respectively (if I’m not mistaken). What’s weird is that testing out the controller with the controller properties shows the axes working correctly, so this has to be an issue with Steam. Anyways, I decided not to set the axes and lo and behold, the issue with the D-Pad’s gone, but the D-Pad doesn’t work at all (because it isn’t set). So this seems to be an issue with Steam. All of the other buttons work fine though.

And fixed! Turns out the issue wasn’t Steam at all. The issue was that the D-Pad acted like an analog stick, instead of a normal D-Pad. Setting the D-Pad values with the “Left Stick X” and “Left Stick Y” values fixes the issue! Just be sure to set the analog stick to a D-Pad when making configurations for your games.

I habe 2 original ps1 pads (Brand new Amazon $100, Ebay $40) and have a ps2 to xbox 360 converter. Love the original d-pad feel. So gonna stick to it. Good you found a fix tho.
