What is the best fix for gift cards from Target that don't work?

I see a number of threads from people who bought a gift card from target and get "invalid code" when redeeming them. None of the threads seem to have a good resolution yet.

My Son bought one yesterday-- same error. We took a picture of the card and zoomed in, there's no way we typed the code wrong.

We contacted Steam support, no response so far.

Some threads say to take it back to Target, others say Target customer service will say there's nothing they can do.

Has anyone successfully resolved this yet?

Talking to Target can't hurt. But it might also take longer than expected to activate too, so patience might be in order.

It can take Target up to 3 days to activate it. They activate them in bulk through their system.

Really? The receipt said six hours max. If that's the case, I won't be buying cards from Target again. I can't remember ever having a store card that wasn't ready by the time I got home.

Target has had issues over the last few years with this.

I'd go to a 7-11, grocery store, Best Buy, Game Stop or other retailer to purchase them.

I will try going back to Target later this evening if it doesn't start working by then (snowed in at the moment)
