8bitdo SNES controller and big picture mode - I have to configure the controller every time

I'm using Big Picture Mode to navigate my games list with an 8bitdo SNES controller. I connect the controller via Bluetooth and open up Big Picture. The d-pad works so I can scroll through the menus but the A and B buttons don't work right. So I go to settings, add/test controller, bind all the buttons how I like them and then it works great... until I turn off my pc.


Next time I start up big picture, the controller are messed up again! Just like when I connected it for the first time. I have to go to the settings menu again... bind all the buttons again... why doesn't Steam save my controller settings? Is there a way to force the configuration to always be the same? This is the only controller I use. Any help or tips would be much appreciated.
