Need to avoid .NET Framework 3.5 Issue
I just can't seem to catch a break this week... maybe you guys could help me avoid more frustration. I can't play many games because of a physical disability; basically limited to just using a regular mouse (can't push the extra buttons on fancy gaming mouse) and/or turn based games. I went to buy Sims 3, even though it's not a storyline game, and I had to return it because my bleepin' computer can't seem to use .NET Framework 3.5! Any suggestions that I might be able to play and will actually run on Windows 10?

On Windows 10, .net 3.5 is a "feature" you enable.

Edit: From the link below.

"a) Press “Windows Logo” + “R” keys on the keyboard.

b) Type “appwiz.cpl” in the “Run” command box and press “ENTER”.

c) In the “Programs and Features” window, click on the link “Turn Windows features on or off”.

d) Check if the “.NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)” option is available in it.

e) If yes, then enable it and then click on “OK”.

f) Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation and restart the computer, if prompte"

Thanks for the help but I was trying this earlier. The problem I had there was not having something as my installation media. I tried going through the Control Panel to Turn Windows Features On or Off, but that initiated an installation attempt that failed, too.
Did you try to install it directly?
Search for the ".NET Framework 3.5 Redistributable" - only download from the Microsoft page
Lol well I was replying before your edit posted, but let me try...
Yeah it's still saying it can't find the required files immediately after downloading them. I'm pretty good with computers, but this is beyond my expertise
Was that with the redistributable too? The normal installer will just download what it needs, the redistributable should have all the files needed.

I just tested here, and it installs.
But then again the "add feature" worked for me too.
Use windows update.
Under optional updates, load net 4.5 or so.
That is all you need.
budozero Yes, that was with the redistributable as well.

Muppet when I use Windows Update it says, "Windws couldn't find required files to complete the requested changes. Make sure you're connected to Internet, and try again. Error code: 0x800F081F."

I also want to share what I have in Turn Windows Features On or Off:
+ .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)
- Windows Communication Foundation HTTP Activation
- Windows Communication Foundation Non-HTTP Activation
+ .NET Framework 4.6 Advanced Services
- ASP .NET 4.6
- (+) WCF Services
-- HTTP Activation
-- Message Queuing (MSMQ) Activation
--Named Pipe Activation
-- TCP Activation
-- TCP Port Sharing

Now, in all of the above, the only thing turned on when I opened this was TCP Port Sharing. What in the world is going on here?
For me, .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) is marked, the two sub catagories are not.

Does Windows show that with Windows update in general? Are you on a limited account? Sounds like something is restricted.

There is this KB on the "0x800F081F" error you posted:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2734782

"Resolution for Windows 10" section.

If you cant update your windows you need to fix that.

Look that error code up.
Windows Update does work; it just can't find & download the files for 3.5. The suggested fix seems to be a complete reinstall of my OS, which I just don't see being worth it. I don't even think that will fix it because a lot of people are having the same issue. I could be misunderstanding some of this, though.

Install 4.5 or whatever new there is.
You dont need 3.5 specifically.
I already have 4.5, as posted above. For some unfathomable reason, Sims 3 wanted 3.5.
