G-Sync Questions
Hey, I'm curious of what other people do. I have a 144Hz G-Sync monitor and I was curious of other people with G-Sync monitors. Do you enable V-Sync in the Nvidia Control Panel/Inspector with G-Sync or do you leave V-Sync off or do you use a different setting (like adaptive or fast).

I don't have V-Sync enabled, but I lock the FPS to 60 with RivaTurner. I don't get any screen tearing because of G-Sync, but I read that G-Sync only works by syncing the refresh rate to the GPU....I'm locking my FPS with RivaTurner to 60, but my refresh rate is still 144.....Yet I still don't see any screen tearing, but now Im wondering if G-Sync is even working if I lock my FPS to 60 while the refresh rate is 144.

Should I perhaps change my refresh rate to 60? Just feels so slow ;_; much prefer 144.

I don't understand why you would cap your FPS on a gsync 144hz monitor. Maybe you are trying to save power? I have an ASUS PG278Q with 144hz refresh and GSYNC. With Gsync enabled, vsync on setting makes it so that your FPS does not run in excess of your refresh rate. FPS can run in excess of 144fps and cause screen tearing if vsync is not enabled along with gsync. That has at least been my experience. I recommend having both gsync and vsync on.

Gsync on fullscreen only. 3D settings application controlled. No vsync. No frame limiting.

I tend to lock my FPS to 60 for every game since I can't maintain 144 fps for everything even with my 980ti, but I personally don't really notice a difference beyond 75 FPS, so I just lock it to 60.

If my FPS is locked, then I wouldn't need to worry about it running in excess of my refresh rate though, right?

Maybe I should leave V sync off?

Only game I've actually had any form of tearing in, has been Knights of the Old Republic 2 and that could just be because Im using widescreen mods and it's an old game. I had to enable v sync for that and it fixed the problems.

That makes no sense.

I think you need to look up what Gsync actually does.

Enjoy the perks of gsync and a high refresh rate. Don't cap it. Let gsync do it's thing.

Gsync changes the refresh rate of the monitor, based on frame rate.

Wtf..why did a mod move this to help and tips? It's a hardware question lol

Whatev I got the answer(s) anyway.

Why do you lock FPS?

G-SYNC syncs the monitors refresh rate with whatever the Graphics card output is (So longs it's above 30 FPS it's smooth).

It's a replacement for V-SYNC and FPS locking, as before you would of had to lock FPS to keep in time with the monitor refresh, but now you don't. It works the other way around.

Uncap FPS, disable V-SYNC and enable G-SYNC under your Nvidia Control Panel (and on the monitor - if there's a toggle). Use DisplayPort cable 1.3 or better to support G-SYNC.
