Uncheck Create Desktop Shortcut?
Hello, I tried clearing my Steam Download Cache to improve client lag and noticed that now when I double clicked an uninstalled game to check its file size that it is now always automatically checking the box options for:

"Create Desktop Shortcut" and "Create Start Menu Shortcut"

when installing a game, which it previously was not doing and I would prefer it not doing so. No matter what I try it always automatically re-checks the boxes each time. Does anyone know if this can be changed?

Thanks for your help!

DB clicking an uninstalled game will automatically commence to install it and the first step is approval for shortcuts.
An uninstalled game is just a greyed out header so no size. Right click it then properties>Local files tab you will see it is greyed out as well as there isn't any game files.

Thanks for replying, Jaunitta, but that wasn't my issue.

I was just checking that when I saw that it is now automatically checking the boxes to add icons and shortcuts that I don't want. Previously it was not checking them so I didn't have to deal with it each time.

I'm thinking maybe after I install the next game and uncheck those boxes maybe they'll stay unchecked in the future. Maybe it remembers after you actually do it once and install a game. But just opening the window, unchecking the boxes, and closing the window and not actually installing the game doesn't work. It keeps checking the boxes.

Not sure if anyone actually knows though.

Alright i understood what you mean. Is it just too hard and time wasting to uncheck the boxes before downloading :D? You can also just download multiple games and delete their shortcuts all together.

Yeah it's more just a nuisance thing and I'm worried that I won't remember to uncheck them and accidentally install shortcuts and then have to go around deleting them after.

Also I just don't know why it changed to doing this now when it wasn't before, lol.

Though I have used Steam for many years before clearing my Steam Download Cache for the first time so I guess it reset / changed some stuff. Maybe that's just how it is by default nowadays.

My kids install and uninstall games as fast as they breathe, so untick that checkbox by default would be really appreciated. If you found a solution, let me know!

Hah I'm here for the same reason. Did you figure it out? It's SO irritating when people are like "DURRRRR JUST UNTICK IT"...like yeah, that's the idea but when you install games constantly, it becomes a hassle if you forget to untick it.
