Unknown Problem
Lately, whenever I attempt to open the steam client on my pc, it fails to work. The updater runs its course, and an error message pops up to say that an incompatible version of CovenantEyesProxy.dll has been detected inside Steam. I usually ignore this and steam works just fine, but the last several days, after this message has been ignored and Steam connects to my account, all processes associated with steam just vanish. I went through the help articles and submitted a support ticket, but this didn’t come up with anything. Please reply to this post with some advice if you can, or with questions if I didn’t make something clear.

Try reinstalling Steam. Do like this, if you don't want to reinstall your Steam games: Go to your steam folder which probably is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam and delete everything except ''steamapps'' and ''steam''. After that, double click on steam and let it update.

I tried this as you outlined, and it worked!... for all of 10 seconds, and then the same thing happened again. I thank you for your valiant effort, but unfortunately it amounted to nothing.
Why is covenant eyes on your computer?

Long story short, it's a device usage monitoring/accountability program that I'm going to have to keep even if I wanted to get rid of it (which I'm on the fence about) and even if I thought it was responsible (which I don't).
Then this program creates a problem.

So I posted an update to this thread stating that I had fixed my steam client, immediately before attempting to reinstall a game. This caused Steam to promptly cease working. I’m looking further into the possibility that Covenant Eyes is responsible (which I don’t think is the case, but it’s still very possible).

Well the only way to find out is to (at least for now) uninstall it.

I'd bet money on it being the culprit.

Covenant Eyes definitely has an ethical objection to Steam/Valve due to the platform selling “adult/anime” games - and apparently games like gta and stuff.

i would also bet Covenant Eyes is the culprit. You may be able update Covenant Eyes (if you haven’t updated in awhile) - as a recent-ish update said it fixed compatibility with Steam and some other non-Steam games.

You may also need to specifically tell Covenant Eyes to ignore keeping you safe from porn on Steam.

Update: I pinpointed Covenant Eyes as the problem, which won’t surprise many of you. Unfortunately, due to some sort of hook, the program can’t be completely stopped from starting automatically, and as I’m a chronic idiot I can’t locate any settings that relate to how it interferes with other programs. However, the program is updating soon to use a different method for filtering, which should interfere a lot less, and I’m getting a new computer soon as well. I will continue to update thos thread, and if you have aby info about settings that may help in the meantime, let me know.

Thanks, this actually fixed the problem! To think it was that simple.
