Getting steam game icons back ( if Icons are blank )
My problem was that i moved steam to a different drive by reinstalling it. But this will most likely work for anything you do.

Right click on game with no icon-> select properties > Make sure you are on the "web document" tab > Select "change icons" > Select browse > Go to where steam folder is and open it ( F: drive for me ) > Go down and open folder named "steam" ( if you keep going down you will see the steam icon this isn't the one you need but this can be used as a shortcut if you delete the steam shortcut as well. You need the folder named steam ) > Open "games" folder > chose the icon you need and double click > Select "OK" > Select "Apply"

there you go do this with any other game from steam with no icon

Just want to comment that your method worked great, thanks Freilin43.

You might run into the same issue if you reinstall Windows, and thus have to reinstall Steam but all the games are still installed So when you create shortcuts for games on your desktop again, they will show blank icons.

If the icon is not in the folder as per Freilin's post, go to your Steam Library and the game in question, right click and properties. Go to the Local Files tab and Verify the integrity of game files. After this is done, the icon should be in the folder as mentioned by Freilin.

I've created a little PowerShell script that recovers all the missing game shortcut icons [github.com] on GitHub. This will help if the required icon files are missing from C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam\games.

THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH - This is exactly what I spent hours looking for after reinstalling Steam - No other suggestion was working to restore the icons

Thank you. I was worried my situation might be different since my games were saved and installed to a hard drive but the solid state drive containing windows and steam died. Your powershell app worked like a dream. Just make sure to sign out of Windows and sign back in afterwards so the icons actually update.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
