I clicked on the link in the steamchat with the guy who wanted to trade. It was a normal link to just an other profile (I thought it was a normal link?). I couldn't add him because i wasn't logged in in the steam overlay. I got an error while logging in and wanted to go back and play. When I closed the steam overlay I got the notification that I was offline and I couldn't reconnect.
The steps described above should save you.
IF you didnt re-use the details for email or anything else
That was your mistake, you don't need to login if you're using the steam overlay, you just gave away all your personal info for them to login into your account.
Without going into details, even legit links can be exploits to steal your data. So tend to not use links given by randoms. Especially if there is no reason.
(Not a current warning for steam as is)
Im pretty sure it was actual steam. I have had that same thing that i had to relog earlier and thought it was a bug.
Ah that's unfortunate, but my account and personal information are a bigger problem. Thanks for helping me out.
For the simple reason, if it was steam, you wouldnt have been logged out and lost your items. And you wouldnt have had to log in again the first place.
And you wouldnt have gotten an "error" while logging in. That error was actually just the way of him telling you, "i need a second one of your steam guard codes".
And the real steam link would still be in the chat.
Hmmm, it is indeed my fault then. Thanks for helping me out.
