Playing non-steam (-but-other-launcher) games with a Steam Link/xbox controller?

Without dashing across the house numerous times to exit the game launchers for Origin games and the like, I was wondering if someone might be able to outline an easy(ish?) way to play non-Steam games that require platforms like Origin/GOG/etc to launch, using a Steam Link setup with an xbox controller? I'd love to play the copies of Wing Commander 1 and 2 that I bought ages ago with a controller.

As long as Steam is launched, holding XBOX button allows to move the mouse, click on things etc. That might be what u're looking for.
