Uninstalling Games - Windows XP
Hi all,

I'm trying to uninstalll my steam games such as Portal 2, CSS, CSGO on my old Windows XP but it requires to update Steam client and log into it. Since XP support ended earlier this year, it gives me an error about steamUI.dll even when I tried to remove the games via the control panel.

I only need to uninstall it to free up space so that I can still use it on older non-Steam games that requires native XP OS.

Does anybody faced this issue also and if so what steps did you took?

Thanks in advance,
bianx

The ACF files in the Steam directory are used by Steam to show the game is installed. Deleting that file for that game Steam will no longer recognise it. But wont solve your space problem.
If you have a ton a games could take you a while to open each one till your find that game/s acf.

You could simply delete that game's folder in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
All your games are listed here.
They will still be in your Steam library if you ever want to use a newer OS and log into Steam.
Run the disc cleanup utility that will also show you any large files such temp and windows thumbnails.
Cleanup old windows updates.
System events .
Delete old system restores they can take up a lot of space.

if you want to remove it from the installed programs list, you will need to remove the registry keys

easy way is with hijackthis
https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/
hjt -> main -> config -> misc tools -> uninstall manager
find the steam games and delete entries
or just reinstall windows xp using clean installation method.
you get rid of all old programs and files not backed up.

You can delete Steam by manually removing it from C:\Program Files\, this will delete Steam and all your Steam games.

To only delete a specific game delete it from C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common. And to make Steam forget about a game delete it's appmanifest in the steamapps folder, the appmanifest will be named after the Steam app ID, this app ID can be found in the URL of it's Steam Store page.
