How to find player profiles in game with the new Steam UI?

Clicking 'view players' in shift tab is useless because some players don't show they're in game. Before the update I was able to find players by clicking community and then friends on the steam web page. They've now removed the part that shows players in your server. This isn't helping with trading, can anyone help me out?
