Difference between offline and invisible?

My steam client updated today and i read that Valve added offline mode

Offline mode was always available and disconnects you from the friend network. It's invisible mode that's new.

You still appear as "offline" in invisible mode so not much difference apart from this:

The main difference is, when you are invisible you appear offline but still get "offline" messages in realtime and can see what your friends are playing.

I've heard you still get notifications (E.G. friends starting a game) when set to Invisible while Offline doesn't. I have not been able to test this since my Friends are lazy ;)

Invisible is to hide your online from your friends, you are ONLINE but you look OFFLINE.

No if you choose go offline ur offline. When you appear offline your technically still online. But you can't see what ur friends are playing and you appear offline to them. I do this when im playing something and don't want to be bugged to play something else. But when you choose invisible you can still see what ur friends are playing but you appear offline to them. From what I gather haven't tried it yet. I know when you go offline on steam you can't play anything hardly. Not sure if it is still that way been awhile since I went totally offline.
