Can't join friends games or be invited

After the new Steam chat update, when I click on my friends' names the option to join their game isn't their. They also can't invite me. I am on Mac.

I've seen this in another discussion, but the problem was unanswered.

Please help!

i could use some help with this aswell cause this is just dumb why can i invite people when they're not playing the game but when they do start it the invite button is gone

did you guys try launching the game then have a invite?

yeah tried to invite before starting the game and that just left them in the main menu and when they start the game the invite option is gone completely

it's new because it used to work before but now it doesn't work. All i can do is invite to watch

yea i will suggest you give another day becuase today Steam is not working fine there is alot of issues daily. I was having the same issue yesterday and today is working fine

If anybody still encounters this error and tried the usual stuff (check and update privacy settings, re-install steam, check lan settings and the other stuff....):

Had the same problem too. Fix for me + friend: Remove friendship in steam and add as friend again. Worked like a charme.
