How to set appear offline to friends as the default?
Steam just rolled out another useless update that reset all my preferences and for some reason seemed to delete a bunch of settings. Can anyone figure out how to set it so you appear offline by default when you start steam? July 2018.

To the steam developments - what are you, the new microsoft/skype? Don't release awful updates that delete features and reset your default settings. From what I can see all you did was change the look of the friends box and add "groups" and other minor things. Was it really necessary to reset ALL my settings to do this? Steam starts on PC startup, my bandwidth limit of downloads was reset, and now I appear online by default and I can't even figure out how to change it. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. People moved from skype to discord because of ♥♥♥♥ like this - don't make the same mistake.

I'd like to know the same thing, I'm quite upset at this garbo updata as well. If someone is able to tell us how to appear offline by default, that'd be great

It took some searching, but - when you open up the small "Friends" tab, press the little gear that's below the X in the top right. Then, at the bottom of the window, there should be "Sign into Friends when Steam Client starts", and change it to off. I hope this proves useful! I agree on the change, it's really hard to get used to.

Its called settings. Do them.

Epic does not have that setting at all.
That is questionable

I really hate it when someone is so lazy that they cannot toggle settings that the company didn't magically know would have to be set a specific way for a specific person.

You could just go invisible and it would still sign you in but appear offline.

it seems like quitting steam and opening it again reset that particular setting so i appears to be online again despite already turning off "Sign into Friends when Steam Client starts" before
