BSOD when downloading
Im gettting a BSOD every time I try to install a game. I have clean wiped my pc and all my drivers are up to date. I reinstalled steam multiple times and have even wiped the cache. I launched in safe mode and still crashed and I have no idea what to do.

System Service Exception
That’s a really small BSOD message.

Are you very sure that’s all it says?

Yeah dude It says "Your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.
ERROR: SYSTEM_SERVICE_ECEPTION

Edit: I only started getting it after the steam update with the new chat

Check that your drivers are up to date, and that you have no hardware malfunctions. Steam doesn't install any kernel code and thus should not be able to crash your operating system.

all drivers are up to date and I took off my case like 2 hours ago and dusted everything and made sure it was working properly. so it couldnt be that

Uplpad your crash dump. Actually, first check if a crash dump is beimg written and where and then upload it.

99% chance you have some VPN software that is screwing with the stack

Uninstall any VPN software

Otherwise those nonsense 'killer ethernet' cards also have drivers that were written by drunken monkeys and often crash the entire OS, a feat that is extra special given the HAL layer is separated from the driver layer to prevent this.

Uninstall any fancy networking software

I dont use a vpn and I dont use ethernet. I uninstalled my ethernet drivers anyway and I still got the crash. The only things I have installed are steam, malwarebytes, discord, razer synapse, firefox, and geforce.

Since that's a minidump, WinDbg has troubles pinpointing the exact cause. I suggest you make Windows save full dumps and upload one the next time this happens.

In the meantime, let it be said that this may be a kernel-mode driver issue or a RAM issue. So run

Try getting Ethernet drivers from Windows Update, then hardwire your computer. If the BSODs stop it is your wireless network driver. Those things love to crash the kernel.

Be careful, it may have sensitive information mixed in, like passwords, open files, etc. that were in RAM when your system crashed.

I figured it out after 2 weeks... it was my ram. I took 1 stick out and no more crashes. Sorry for wasting your time. Thanks for your help
