Right now my mic volume is always sent to 0. If its going to transmit automatically then it's going to transmit nothing
All I can say is I'm glad I have a removable mic. I did consider two options but I don't have a second mic to test and it'll mean messing around each time you actually want to use the mic.
Option 1.
If I had a second mic I'd try
Setting > Voice > Change device to second mic. Once complete just unplug the second mic. Steam might switch back to other mic though??
Option 2.
Buy a dirt cheap, as cheap as you can mic. (or 3.5mm Mic jack on it's own) Plug it in and set it to Steams default mic device. Now cut the lead leaving just the mice jack in your system. Steam can't pick anything up as mic not actually there. Then just unplug it when you want to use voice aand it should switch back to other mic.
I have nothing to test those with so try at your own discretion.
