Steam microphone
I think it should be a option to have the microphone active or not in steamchat. While this may not bother most, it does me.Push to talk is not a means of stopping voice chat and simply unplugging your device doesnt solve the problem especially when your microphone in built in.It is intrusive to me and kinda pisses me off not have my privacy. Yeah I can jury rig my equipment , but if I need it for other means then this is not a alternative. I am really feeling that Valve don't basicly give a F if you don't like it or not lately and the more time goes by it seems they dont think about people.:steamsad:

A simple disple voice would be nice. I'd also like an option to make push to talk a combination of keys rather than a single key if we want along with a combination for the push-to-mute option.
Right now my mic volume is always sent to 0. If its going to transmit automatically then it's going to transmit nothing :steamhappy:

Call me paranoid for knowing this , but setting your mic to zero really doesnt stop all that can be obtained from it even when you have it set to zero. It's scary , but true.

Maybe but it depends on the mic and it's location. If I do it on my headset it'll pick up stuff really quiet. I'm sure it could be boosted using some software. But if I put it on my desk hang it on the monitor it never detects anything...least not that I can tell.

All I can say is I'm glad I have a removable mic. I did consider two options but I don't have a second mic to test and it'll mean messing around each time you actually want to use the mic.

Option 1.

If I had a second mic I'd try
Setting > Voice > Change device to second mic. Once complete just unplug the second mic. Steam might switch back to other mic though??

Option 2.
Buy a dirt cheap, as cheap as you can mic. (or 3.5mm Mic jack on it's own) Plug it in and set it to Steams default mic device. Now cut the lead leaving just the mice jack in your system. Steam can't pick anything up as mic not actually there. Then just unplug it when you want to use voice aand it should switch back to other mic.

I have nothing to test those with so try at your own discretion.
