How do you clear a chat log?

So privacy is a serious issue for me, and all of a sudden i am seeing full hat logs in my conversations from weeks and months back, how do i clear this?

I regret a lot of things I said now.

Don't say things you'll regret then. simple as that. if you have steam open in a work environment then keep it civil if someone looks over your shoulder for some reason.

No. GDPR requires lots of different rules now, and everyone on steam has to conform to some of these new changes (a lot of them are here https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata )

Steam haven't kept your chat logs for GDPR they allow you to see them because of it (plenty of users have requested it as a feature too but that was the final push that got it done) but they have been keeping them since long before that for monitoring and checking in case of scams, illegal activities, harrasment and other situations needing to be investigated.

before they only stored up like to a week before, now they store a lot more. and they have to show it to you because of GDPR. they need to let you know all the personal data they are taking from you and how they're using it/etc, and chat messages are one of them which is why it launched WITH the gdpr update.

They stored it for a lot longer. I could use the mobile app and find chat logs 3 months old.

ok but i dont WANT this information, like... having them show it to me is so much more a threat to my privacy than them not showing it. the mobile app still lets you clear a chat log, why does that stil work?

do you know how long it's been since they updated the chat functionality of the mobile app? You still can't even show emoticons, and it's totally incompatible with the new chat too. only purpose for that app really is confirmations.
