How do I disable this new chat thing that started today
I have no desire to use steam (or any other vendors) chat on my gaming computer. How do i disable it completely so it doesn't pop up a window at the start of a game ?

I tried that but it didn't work because I run steam when I run a game (the game starts steam). I don't any short cut. How do i make all games use the short cut ?

C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe

FInd that directory, right click the file and create a shortcut on desktop.

Add the launch parameters after that.

I think you missed the problem. If I run steam from the short cut it works fine but when I run a steam game it starts steam directly and doesn't use the short cut flags.

Ok. I take it back it seems to work fine. Thanks. I had to delete the old short cut on the desk top - editing it for some reason didn't work and create a new one. Thanks again.

if steam autostarts on windows boot, the link edit doesnt work. is there a solution for autostart on boot?

you can edit that from regedit
or disable steam from running on startup

start -> run/search -> regedit
browse to
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

edit "Steam"
and add
-silent -nochatui -nofriendsui

Steam saves settings when you exit it, but not when you shut it down via shutting down windows.

Just close the chat window manually and exit steam via steam -> exit

The pop-up will be gone with the next steam start.
