i only have F1 2019 (40gb) and Dark souls 3 (25gb) installed but the common folder is taking up 380gb of space!

does anyone know how to fix this or what is happening?

That's where games are stored. Open it up and look at what's in there.
Yeh I downloaded windirstrat which allows me to see everything in the folder and its size but it adds to a mere 100gb at most and it's taking up 380gb
Are you checking through Steam or Explorer? Check with the latter. Afterwards, check what subfolders are there.

i know thats where games are stored but i only have 100gb of games installed but the folder still takes up 380gb is there no way to get rid of the 280gb that is being used for no reason
How are you checking the sizes?
It seems odd you claim to be using windirstat yet aren’t actually like looking at it since it gives you a breakdown of what actually is taking up space......
yes i am looking at it thats what im trying to say. it says its taking up 380gb however it only adds up to 100gb and windirstrat is saying its 380gb with 280gb randomly being in the common folder.

Wild guess: you've got a lot of hidden stuff there. So have Explorer show all the hidden stuff as well and then delete everything except the two game folders you want to keep.

Note that windirstat doesnt lie which means you're likely adding things up incorrectly in some way. You'd honestly have to post a screenshot of windir stata and the 'math' you're using to calculate the disk space.

there arent any hidden files in the steam directory so that shouldnt realistically be an issue
you could use ccleaner disk analyzer (its under tools in the program) which will show you exactly the files that are taking up space.

windirstat will show you the directory size and like the total amount of each file type but do not recall if you can actually see which files are which.
Remember that 'file size' and 'size actually taken up on disk' can be *radically* different.

I suspect you're just reading it wrong, though. Most people don't seem to remember that game files are vast and spread out - and that does mean that even small kb size files can take up much more actual drive space than the numbers indicate. Rounding is key, and rounding up is vital, to reading numbers on drives.

Also I see that you have over 100 games - they're all in there. If you have them hidden in your steam library that doesn't mean you've uninstalled anything...

How exactly does it not add up? I clearly see Dead by Dayligt, CSGO, Dark Souls 3 and so forth, all installing, all taking up space. You may want to read

One way or another, you have way more games installed than F1 and DS3. You also need new glasses, there's no way you don't see Dead by Daylight (and so on) on this screenshot.

If you REALLY uninstalled those games in Steam, delete their folders.
