Mic doesn't work in games but works in Discord.
So recently my mic stopped working in every game, it doesn't matter if its on Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc, it stopped working. However it works in Discord completely fine with no issues, if anyone knows how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

I have just had the same problem, and set the steam audio to the correct one, however it still seems to not be working.

I figured out the issue, my splitter for my headset broke, so if you're having the same problem its probably an issue with your headset mic splitter
I have my mic and headphones plugged separatelly. Any other idea? It still doesn't work.
you can just check your input: view > friends > click the gear icon > voice

Have you found a solution to this issue a year later? Because I've had this issue, just mildly different. My mic picks my voice up very, very quietly. I have to basically shout/breathe into the mic for anything to be heard. But only for certain games. Only game my mic works completely fine is Barotruma. Been looking for an answer for months, got to try.
cable out and back in? :steamhappy:

My microfon didn't work in games. In all multiplayer games my voice was distorted and nobody could understand me. However outside of games, my microphone worked fine - team speak, skype, discord or any other app, they all worked fine. The problem was caused by steam itself. I could be playing game and talk to my friend on discord and everything was ok. But simply in-game voice chat was broken. Solution? There isn't any. I was looking for a solution for years, contacted various tech. supports including nvidia and other. No solution. Why? Because of windows. That's right, it's caused by windows. One day a windows update came out and after this update my problems with microphone begun. Few years later, after another windows update, problem disappeared and everything worked fine. For a few years my microphone worked fine and then another windows update came out and my mic was broken again. After another few years another windows update and it's all fine again.

Well. Damn. I did find a mild solution in using a controller as a medium for the mic and headset instead of the 3.5 jack on the PC. So that just... Makes things dumber. Thanks anyway.
Saw all these replies just now, i did find a solution I don't think it will work for everybody tho but basically all I had to do was buy a new splitter for my headset and it fixed the issue, still don't know why my mic was working in discord but nothing else but a new splitter fixed it.
I have found a solution for myself. I tested my mic with a controller and found it worked on PC with the games it wasn't working on. I have since put my 3.5 jacks into the back of the PC and changed some settings with realtek audio and everything is working! I'm starting to think the 3.5 jacks at the front of my PC are damaged or something connected to them are damaged.
