Mic doesn't work in games but works in Discord.
So recently my mic stopped working in every game, it doesn't matter if its on Steam, Origin, Uplay, etc, it stopped working. However it works in Discord completely fine with no issues, if anyone knows how to fix this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

What kind of computer do you have? I am having same issue with brand new imac, and reinstalled STEAM and CSGO

I have a custom built PC
Specs:
GPU: RX 590
CPU: I7 2600k
RAM 16 gb DDR3
You need to set your mic as default in your sound settings in control panel. Once you have set it as default it will work in games. Discord will still continue to function like normal.

Regardless of computer you still need to set new equipment as default or it wont work as expected.

What is discord set to? How is the mic plugged in? (USB or Jack)

You can find discords audio settings by clicking on the Cog next to your name down the bottom left and selecting Voice and Video.

For your system settings you should have both these selected:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2053764830 Make sure you set the correct device as default.

Discord allows you to set any device as input regardless of your system sound settings. This is probably going to be why you are having issues with other stuff. So set your system sound settings to be exactly what discord has set.

Ok so Discord works fine with your system sound settings currently set correctly? I have no idea why your games are not picking up your mic. Everything seems fine....

Did you change anything recently? Install anything new? Get any new equipment?

I started playing FiveM which is a add on to GTA 5 which allows you to play GTA 5 roleplay, me and my friend were playing and an admin of a server said that my mic was to loud so I turned down in game and they said it was fine then a few days later my mic stopped working on GTA 5 rp but worked in every other game then the next day my mic stopped working in every gameI talked to the admins of the server they said they couldn't help me and it hasn't worked ever since. The newest piece of hardware I have bought is a new graphics card, I upgraded from a GTX 1050 TI to a RX 590 and have been thinking that switching from NVIDIA to AMD could've messed up my mic but this didn't happen until about 1 1/2 months after I got my new GPU.

Hmmm ok well thats odd. Its not gonna be FiveM thats messed anything up.

I doubt its the GPU swap, make sure you have all the correct drivers installed.

Sorry mate, have to wait for someone else who might know. I have no idea why this is not working.

Audio can be really simple and really difficult at the same time.

Its alright I have kinda just grown to deal with my mic not working but thanks for the help anyway
Someone told me the other day about steam needing your mic for games to use. Check if steam has the correct microphone settings and then give your games a try. Not sure if its true but may as well try it.

I have just had the same problem, and set the steam audio to the correct one, however it still seems to not be working.

I figured out the issue, my splitter for my headset broke, so if you're having the same problem its probably an issue with your headset mic splitter
