Microphone distortion in steam games only
Can someone help please? My microphone works perfectly in teamspeak, discord and other apps but while playing any steam game, my voice in multiplayer voice chat is distorted and noone can understand me. I sound like devil or darth vader. Mic test in friends list settings goes well. This happened after windows 10 update. Tried to look for driver updates or anything but everything is actual. I had this issue once several years ago and solution was to change something in steam setting. Something about allowing or revokng permission to steam to control my microphone. Unfortunatelly i was no able to find such a thing in settings again. I have no idea whether it's this thing again or windows messed up something after update but it's annoying. The microphone literally does not work properly in steam games but in everything outside steam it's fine. Please help, i'm hopeless.

That's not a joke, i'm completely serious, it's really annoying to be writing in the peak moments of some fight, not even mentioning that people just don't read chat and they ignore me.

Then go to Friends in the upper left > View Friends List > Manage friends list settings > Voice.
Look at your input device and be sure it's the right one, then scroll down to advanced settings and try changing Echo and Noise cancellation.

Nope, maybe there is some way to fix it through the windows settings but I have no idea how.
Gotta sleep now btw

Edit: Maybe you can go to windows settings > system > sound and see if you are using the right input device. You can also test it there, and if it works fine then the issue is in steam.

no because you say work other places , try echo test at skype , still best record and playback at yourself. ( i know soundcard can change to chipmonk and other funny stuff but it cant be that then you only have steam issue, so as other point out, could this be own voice in steam that get so distorted that it go crazy like a demon. ( same in old days then people was on phone in the radio, and it amplifiyed itslf. ( typical open mic / speaker that loop itself )
dont know the right word maybe in English terms, there could be tech terms that cover this.

Nothing helped. Can anyone suggest some other advice?

in Friends and chat - then cog wheel - Voice settings - that is the only steam mic settings there is to my knowledge rest is in system OS. and driver ofc. to own soundcard.
goto brandmortherboard for soundcard drivers or soundcard hompage, or try iobits driver booster maybe that can find newer drivers that mortherboard dont have.

I'm having the same issue. Every audio interface is affected.
The only workaround, is to not play in Fullscreen. Windowed mode does not have the problem.

It's really weird behaviour. I'll start a game, full screen, after ~30 seconds the portal to hell is opened and everyone in chat sounds like a demon and I sound like a demon to them. If I Alt-Tab or return to desktop, after a few seconds, voice will return but extremely low pitch, then another ~10 seconds and voice returns to normal. Then go back into the game and start the whole process again. :/ Desperate for a solution

no, another random windows update fixed it, just like previous windows update broke it

I have this kind of problem now. Just one day the front panel jacks I use for my headset started with distortion both the person talking to me and my voice when testing mic.
Selecting speakers as sound output works fine, but mic seem to be broken.

Other voice supported programs like Discord work fine. Testing mic in windows settings is also working fine.
