steam game shortcut icons

so today i finally got rid of the very annoying mobigame virus/malwear from my pc or so i hope I've seen the last of it. only thing is now all my steam game icons are that blank peace of paper icon. anyone know how to fix it? (I've tried verifying game cache and all that even uninstalled steam itself and reinstalled but whenever i download a game and create a shortcut its the same icon again).

You need to reset the file association for LNK files.

Well, yeah there are many ways to do it, many show to Registry Editor.

But I would recommend you to look up tutorials for that, maybe the regedit path is not the same probably on different Windows versions like 7, 8 or 10, not sure though.



You can use FileTypesMan
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/file_types_manager.html

and search for .lnk and then try to remove it, then in FileTypesMan you can refresh Explorer without restarting explorer.exe or the PC.

If you do it with registry, FileTypesMan can still be helpful for that too, to refresh Explorer.
