Steam gifting and receiving restrictions
So, I've recently moved from Malaysia to Japan, and have faced one or two issues regarding gifting.

Here's the deal: i understand that if someone from Malaysia tried to send me who's currently in Japan a gift, I won't be able to receive it. But, just a few hours ago i tried sending a gift to my friend who also came from Malaysia and live Japan like me, and it turns out that he also can't receive my gift.

So....am i missing something here? Is there a reason as to why i can't send gifts to him? I've been running around trying to look for solutions but to no avail, and i did not see any other restrictions information and what not on the support faq either.

Can someone help please? Thank you.

There is no solution. It's due to the difference in price exceeding 10% (aka regional pricing). Since the game costs less in Malaysia than it does in Japan, you cannot gift it otherwise people would abuse this to get cheaper games.

If that's the case, instead of a steam game as a gift, can i buy a digital steam gift card and send to my friend? (If both of us is in Japan does Malaysian currency gift card works, or its strictly JP Yen gift card only?)

This is a good solution. Yes, the card will convert to the home countries' currency of the recipient.

Wait, let me just get it right here (sorry for being paranoid in case i waste my money again): so when i buy gift card in MYR and send it to my friend ( despite both of us are in Japan), the gift card will be auto converted to JPY gift card value, is that right?

What happens if my friend lives in another country?
The digital gift card you purchased will automatically be converted into your friend's currency.
