Steam Voice Chat Issue
I have had a recurring issue with Steam Voice Chat where neither myself or the other user can hear each other. When we use the "Test Microphone" feature though, it sounds fine on both ends. This tells me we have the correct devices selected for both microphone and speakers, but yet we still can't hear each other. I'm at a loss for what to try next. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

We are not on push-to-talk. We are set to always broadcast.

Same issue here. Noticed last few times I tried to talk to my nephew that we can't hear each other but hardware configuration is right, blue bar indicates activity. Even when copying voice chat logs and checking them out I can see that connection is established and data is being sent and received.

Yeah I forgot to mention that we can both see the blue bar as well when we speak (his is green for some reason, though).

I've also submitted a ticket to steam support and will update you if I get a solution.

I'm legit having this problem too, could it be the Steam servers?

I am not sure, but I got the following reply from Steam Support:

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to report this and I am sorry to you're experiencing this issue with Voice Chat.

If you both have completed all of the steps in the Troubleshooting Section of our Voice Chat article then it sounds like the Steam Client itself is in a bad state or something outside of it is still causing the issue.

If you both have not done so yet, I would recommend completely uninstalling and reinstalling the Steam Client. Please see our Uninstall Steam article on how to do so without deleting your games. Also note, if your games do not support the Steam Cloud you will want to backup the save data for them.

Unfortunately, our support is limited for this particular issue. If you continue to experience this issue after a complete reinstall of Steam then we still recommend reaching out to a specialist to help you determine the underlying cause.

In the meantime, I would encourage you to search for this issue and post about it in one of the more active Steam community hubs, it's possible other users have experienced similar issues and can offer helpful advice.

Again, I'm sorry that we could not be of more help with this but If there's something else we can assist you with, please reply here and we will be happy to help you.
