Halo Reach freezing and crashing on Ryzen 5 2400G
Received MCC as gift and was able to go through campaign on performance quality and 720 res. but the article on Overclock3D says it should run fine on original settings

https://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/software/halo_reach_pc_performance_review_with_amd_ryzen_apu_testing/5

My system on original settings crashes entire PC within 5min of playing to black screen oblivion, sometimes to BSOD with timeout on graphics and once in ten just gracefully disappears into Windows.

Thank you. Could you please check your temps with HW Monitor to check this isn't due to overheating? And also reinstall all drivers from your motherboard's website. For GPU drivers wipe them with DDU then reinstall from AMD directly.

Is my second monitor taking away some of the performance?

No, unless you have another game or demanding program on monitor #2, no.
Soldier Ramon 5 DIC 2019 a las 21:21
Ok, thanks. I will follow your advice and report here later.

No problem, make sure you play a game for 10 minutes after opening HW Monitor to make sure the system is actually under load and producing heat. Preferrably the most demanding game you have.

Btw. when playing game on main monitor, 2nd monitor is usually just running Firefox with dozen tabs, text editor or similar program. Screen is pretty static.

Should be closed when gaming, they can take up gigabytes of RAM. Though you have 32GB, so shouldn't be an issue either.

I am quite good on RAM, this is home office PC and RAM was my primary thing. But I just noticed that my system is running very hot without anything running, closed all programs in foreground except this one, the CPU cores in H/W monitor are 0.0% sometimes jumping to single digit value and yet:

Temp #1 33 deg C max 41.5
Temp #2 29 deg C max 30
Temp #3 86 deg C max 87
Temp #4 98 deg C max 98
Temp #5 23 deg C max 23

All right, I am surprised the game run at all. Going to check it out.

Yes, that's overheating. We've narrowed the issue down, that's good.

Your CPU has a max of 95c, so it's shutting down to prevent physical damage. Do you know how to repaste and dust your cooler out?

Also how many case fans do you have? In what configuration and location? Intake/exhaust, top/front etc.
Komrade 5 DIC 2019 a las 22:23
But basically, compressed air and dust out all fans in your system. All fans. Hold the fans down while you spray the can, overspin can cause overvoltage. Don't tilt the can sideways, as liquid will spray out. Don't shake the can prior to spraying. To repaste, unscrew the cooler, wipe the CPU and the actual metal piece on the cooler so that all the old paste is completely off, use a microfiber cloth or any cloth that does not leave lint or other debris. Don't use tissues. Preferably 99% Ispropyl, or as high % as you can go. Ask before using anything other than this, as abrasive solutions can damage the CPU. Then get a tube of paste, I use AS5, MX-4 works fine too, a 3.5g tube is $5 and will last several applications. Apply a small pea sized amount of thermal paste directly in the center of the CPU. Mount the cooler and screw it down. If after all this your temps are still sub-optimal you'll need more case fans or a better air cooler such as the Hyper 212.

In the meantime, I have repasted the CPU. The OpenHardwareMonitor still reports those high values, but BIOS shows happy purring machine CPU at 43.5C and MB at 25C. Also critical temp is set to 75C in BIOS at which point the CPU fan should go crazy with 90% duty cycle, but I never heard it.

There is something wrong with OpenHardwareMonitor values. My best guess is, that sensor reports half degrees (so LSB in sensor output is 0.5C) and BIOS recognizes it as such, but OHM treats the value at LSB=1C and so Temp3 and 4 are doubled. So 86 and 98 are in reality 43C and 49C.

Back to original idea with drivers.
