Is there any way to permanently remove particular tools from my Library? Or do I just have to hide them?
The new Steam Library design has made Tools a more prominent thing in the Library, as a checkbox you can enable in the left-hand column. It's reminded me that I have loads of pointless things in there, which I never added myself. Stuff like "Brink Dedicated Server", or "Alien Swarm -SDK", which are for games I don't own. I guess they might be there because (if I remember rightly) Steam used to add games temporarily into your Library when they had free weekends. The games must have vanished at the end of the weekend, but left the associated tools behind?

Anyway, if you click on one of those tools' library page, then click "Support", it goes to a support page with very few options available to you, as: "This product is not in your Steam Library." However, if I click "Support" for a tool that is associated with a game I do own, the support page gives me more options, such as permanently removing it from my account, along with the associated game.

Is there any way to actually remove these pointless tools that are visible in my Steam Library, but also "not in my Steam Library"? Like how you can now right-click and "Remove from my Library" any free-to-play games you have. (This is not possible with Tools.)

If not, I'm guessing I'll have to go and hide all these pointless tools. If I do that, it makes me wonder something else: Will I ever be able to un-hide them? Because in my left column, I have the checkboxes to show "Games" and "Tools", and if I look at the Hidden Games page, I need the appropriate checkbox ticked to be able to see the things I've hidden away. If I hide all my Tools, will the checkbox vanish too, so I can't tick it when looking at Hidden Games?

You can simply uncheck the tools section entirely if you want

The only thing that really bothers me about the new library ui is the top shelf "what's new" which is basically advertising for new releases. When I go into my library I only want to see my games and I definitely do not want to be advertised at. I can seemingly remove any shelf in my library except this one. I think you should be safe from the ad plague when perusing your own games.

If you've actually installed them, then you'll have to uninstall them "one by one".

If they are just in your library display, deselect the "Tools" from the dropdown at the top of the list. Probably says "ALL" there for you right now.
