Download Speed Extremely Spotty
I've had this issue for about as long as I can remember. I'm on Google Fiber and have a consistent download speed of around 80-100 Mbps. However, when I download a game on Steam, my speeds fluctuate from single digit Kbps (or 0 bps) to many hundreds of Mbps. There's almost never any consistency. I haven't seen this issue on other platforms (Xbox app, Epic games, etc.) so it only seems to be on Steam where I encounter it. I've seen a lot of threads mention things similar to this, but the fixes have never done the trick for me. Wanted to see if this is something that people still struggle with and if there's a "cure all" for it. If not, I'll do pretty much whatever it takes to fix it.

Ditto, same for a number of my friends. Only happening here on steam. So I would point the fault at their end.

Sometimes, though it seems not today (or yesterday), you can change the Download Region in settings. I've gone thru all of them myself and nothing changed. You can also try clearing your download cache, though again that didn't work for me.

Tried on 2 rigs, and used multiple vpn servers(PIA) but nothing changed it.

Fios gigabit user.

I am currently downloading far cry 2 on gog, done in about 30 seconds. On steam... nope. 15kbs.

Chances are this is just something we as users will just have to wait out. Try the above anyway, you may have better luck. Both require steam restarts.

I would chalk it up to the 'holiday'. Though I can't remember it ever being this bad or wide spread I can remember this kind of thing happening before.

It's also not just fios,(just to add more info, I know you didn't say it was) two of my friends have comcast, one has time warner, another has something I can't remember, not sure for the rest but the point is made.

From PA, OH, Mass, AZ, Utah, Cali and one in canada, toronto I think.

I'm actually surprised I'm not seeing more make threads about this issue.

Yes, after a few days things were back to normal for all. Never got word back from my ticket submission as to what the issue was.(personally I view the ticket system as worthless)

You can submit one if you'd like. your first reply will be to go to a pinned tips and tricks/how to to fix it, so I would start your ticket with that you've already done those(obviously only if you have), next they'll probably ask for you dxdiag. Then you'll wait and things will be back to normal before you get a response.
(Tried to keep as much animosity out of that as possible)

Best bet, try clearing the download cache about every hour or so, again a steam restart is required and see if you can get files moving. Beyond that, I hope you enjoy twiddling your thumbs, haha.

Aside, this wasn't an issue 4 or so days ago. Downloaded sniper elite v2 in about 1.5 minutes. I only notice this issue last night when trying to add the vault hunter 2 dlc to borderlands 2 (177mb file size which should take 10 seconds tops.) This is effecting everything from music to games to dlc to sdks.

HEY! I switched over to the toronto download region and was able to get my speeds back. I would suggest anyone having the dl issue try this.
Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> Download Region
Hope this helps!

Very nice! I've tried switching regions around but not very extensively. I'll try that next time I'm downloading something big.

I normally get around 20MB/s through steam. Under 1 atm for some reason though.
