Need help setting up multiple Library folders on same drive
Please help! I know this was a thing able to be done in the past but it's 2020 and there's no info on it. When i installed steam YEARS ago it defaulted to my programfilesx86 and I have had very few problems except recently I picked up fallout 3 goty and to fix crashes I found that programfilesx86 is a no no. I have found that you're supposed to be able to edit the libraryfolders.vdf to allow multiple libraries on the same drive however when I open it I see no file paths. Below is copy pasted what is in my Libraryfolders.vdf:

"LibraryFolders"
{

"TimeNextStatsReport" "XXXXXXXXXX"
"ContentStatsID" "-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
}

I am unfortunately unable to see any paths to any hard drives or "add" a new one via any editor be notepad, wordpad hell even hexeditor. All I am trying to accomplish is to not completely wipe my entire steam library just so I can move fallout3 to a different folder other than programfilesx86. Please help.

Create some folders on the drive you want to use.

Example: RPG, Shooter etc.

Next > Steam > Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders > Add Library Folder.

EDIT: When installing a game choose the folder to install to.

You can select a new target folder for any game you install from Steam.

See Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders

You can use any folder visible there. You can even create new ones.
I appreciate both of your comments however I'm looking into adding two steam libraries to the same drive. So my SSD is my C drive. I have steam in programfilesx86 on my C drive. Unfortunately when I go to steam settings > downloads > steam library folders and I try to add a new steam folder to the same hard drive I get a pop up saying "Selected drive already has a Steam library folder. Steam will manage multiple game installs in a single folder for you." Essentially saying "F you, you get one folder per drive."
I really only need a second steam folder for fallout 3, pretty much every research about crashing during vats is saying that it has to be removed from programfilesx86. This has been the ONLY game that has had issues being ran from programfilesx86, and I don't even know if it will work cause Bethesda releases buggy trash like its their signature sandwich. I just am curious to see IF I could create a second folder on the same drive if it would even fix the problem in game by moving it and instead steam is saying the limit per hard drive is 1.
f3 has GFW issue, f3nv dont have that. there is pinned down threads in how to fix.
it dont have any issue with what drev and win10.

ps.
rest is unofficial patch, because all know today how Bethesda dont fix ingame after some years.

is like 2 diffrent issue you have in one thread, things dont work like that.

ps.

GFW and Xbox live is 2 diffrent things. they closed the GFW for PC , but same time allowed other pc games login at xbox live.if they support it.

Not had any crashes with Fallout 3 in Program Files (x86).

I have the following installed.

Games for Windows Live Disabler for Fallout 3

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/1086/

and the Unofficial Patch for Fallout 3.

You have to create folders outside of the Steam Folder.

For Example: C:\Program Files (x86)\Total War Series
I'm running on windows 7. I was in combat using vats and it crashes. I got an autosave before the fight and every time i use vats it crashes. It has crashed using vats before this multiple times. I have the unofficial fallout3 patch, as well as stutter remover(only cause it has no negative effects) and it still crashes, and by crash I mean it doesn't ctd it freezes and I have to end program via task manager. I've tried a mod that's supposed to add x64bit compatibility as well as this mod:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21888/?

Which says in the "about this mod" it supposedly "Eliminates crashes". Unfortunately is not the case. After trying so many alternative methods the only one I found that I haven't tried is removing the game from my programfilesx86. I know this weirdly turned into a discussion about fallout but I'd still like to know if I can create TWO, yes TWO ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, steam folders on ONE harddrive. Every time I try to add a folder through steam settings it scolds me saying I already have a steam folder on this hard drive. The above copy paste in my post is my libraryfolders.vdf which according to a post 4 years ago you could manually edit this using any word program and add a second file to a hard drive, unfortunately what I am looking at from google through pics is not what I'm seeing.

What I saw online the .vdf file is supposed to look like this:

"LibraryFolders"
{
"TimeNextStatsReport" "XXXXXXXX"
"ContentStatsID" "XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
"1" "D:\\SteamLibrary"
"2" "D:\\SteamLibrary2"
"3" "D:\\SteamLibraryFreeGames"
"4" "D:\\AnotherLibrary"
"5" "E:\\Program Files\\SteamLibrary"
"6" "E:\\SteamLibrary"
"7" "F:\\SteamLibrary"
}

Mine looks like this:

"LibraryFolders"
{

"TimeNextStatsReport" "XXXXXXXXXX"
"ContentStatsID" "-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
}

I'm also not very smart with computers so this whole process of having to edit this file just to add a secondary steam folder for 1 hard drive is beyond me when I know steam had this option back in the day.

im out, to even debat steam lib issue and game crash sametime , is OP own mistake, they have nothing to do with each other.

and you wont solve anything with split steam lib on same drev, not in performance or with a disk defragmenting, you will only make it worse, then it keep have multi dir with games that keep move because of split dir. ( and to my knowlegde not possible as standard steam settings, and waste of time ( actual you make it worse in performance ))

ps.
as example test one of the defragmenting app. i recommend iobit defragmenting app and try smart defrag, ( this is vital today to understand pearl on a string is not faster, its actual frequent access files that need best area on slave drev, to max output its performance )
problem is this tech way has nothing to do with SSD disk, but many thought it not needed anymore, and why defragmenting app was in trouble and not re-invented itself anymore.

maybe other have a better defrag app.
Auslogics Disk Defrag , was also a goodie back then. rest look like backwards outdate app that move every data to make a pearl on a string ( useless app that move all for few change, and could be seen as unnecessary move and tear/burnout or down harddisk faster. )

for every steam lib split you make on same drev, then its not seen as one game lib but seperated folder that need to move and adjust to each other. through a defragmenting app.

OP shut steam down and add the "#" "<location where you want it>" after "ContentStatsID"

For example if you wanted a library at C:\Steam\ and one at C:\Games\Steam you would add
"1" "C:\\Steam"
"2" "C:\\Games\\Steam"

and it would look like this for you. It requires the double slashes \\

"LibraryFolders"
{

"TimeNextStatsReport" "XXXXXXXXXX"
"ContentStatsID" "-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX"
"1" "C:\\Steam"
"2" "C:\\Games\\Steam"
}

Well I got the advanced system care app. Scan and fixed then defragged the disk. Hopefully this fixes the freezing crashes that happen when I play, will have to update this post later, It's too late to reinstall and re-mod fallout3 tonight.

no not relly , right click game use propertise and move install folder to that place you want it diffrent drev or right place.

( as you see smart defrag cant defrag faster then all steam should be kept per drev together, i hope you can see next time you defrag it actual ( bend the rules and deal with smart and not move every blood data file to adjust to so few change. ) typical old windows defragand alot of them just start over and over then change happend ( i know its complicated for new pc user's but many of us learn this from previous OS and worst defrag app from back then ) and yse clean upo junk and before defrag , whats the point in defrag junk. ( this is part of smart defrag now as i recall. )
