Steam Game Download Peculiarity
I have a gigabit internet connection; I can download Star Citizen at around 80 megaBYTES a second without any issues.

Steam used to function similarly; I used to get over 100 megaBYTES a second download. However, I downloaded a few games in the past few days and realized Steam seems to be capped at 25 megaBYTES a second. Not only that but when hitting that limit my comptuer's entire network connection seems to be affected. When downloading Star Citizen I can have multiple Twitch streams up and there are no issues. However, when downloading a game with Steam, the Twitch streams will start to buffer [repeatedly] and even general internet browsing slows down.

My Settings>Downloads is set to No Limit and throttling is unchecked. Downloading to a 970 Evo Plus NVMe vs a Sandisk Ultra II SATA SSD does not affect download speeds.

I don't know when nor which Steam update changed things. Is this a known and/or fixable issue?

Troubleshooting Network Connectivity

Try all download servers until you find one with speeds you are happy with.

There are over 130 to try.

Any server near me was slow as dirt. Nearest does not always equal faster.

Today, Rio was better for me. Yesterday, Columbia was better (odd, ain't it?). Btw... I'm on the East Coast.

And ISPs also throttle. Also consider traffic.

West Africa it is then...a bit silly that finding the fastest download server isn't by default an automated thing. I wouldn't want to have to take 2 hours every time I want good speeds to download a game.

It chooses the closest by default. Some games use it to select regions in multiplayer. That's why it doesn't auto select the fastest. Sometimes a server on the other side of the planet is faster but would make MM terrible.
