Can't run diagonally in source engine games
Hi

Whenever I want to run diagonally in source engine games (for example, when I press both "W" and "D" at the same time) one of the inputs ends up cancelling out the other (I end up running either right or forward, but NEVER diagonally froward-and-right)

This issue surfaces ONLY when I play source engine fps games (Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, Fistful of Frags, etc.) but never on other games. I have even ran a keyboard check to see if I can press 2 of the WASD keys at the same time, and I CAN do it everywhere (but not in source engine games)

---
I have windows 10, my TF2 game runs on lower settings (just in case), I have all necessary drivers installed and updated, and I have a gaming keyboard (Bloody B314)
---

I've read craptons upon craptons of forums (including steam discussions) with people discussing the same issue, and the only answer people usually end up getting is "buy a new gaming keyboard". But I am absolutely convinced that the hardware has nothing to do with the problem, since this issue exists only within source engine games.

Please help me fix this problem, I just want to enjoy my favourite valve games again like I used to.

When did it start to happen?

You could try make a backup of your config cfg file of the game, and erase the one in the real place, to get a default one to try out what happens.

It's been so long I don't even remember what could've started this mess. However, It used to be fine before.

I've played around with the configs a lot in futile attempts to fix this issue, but to no avail. I've tried default one, as well as numerous custom ones that are said to improve game's performance and whatnot.

Even after completely reinstalling the game (and even steam) i still had the same issue of not being able to walk diagonally.

Have you tried a different keyboard?

Yes. I've tried a different (albeit slightly outdated) gaming keyboard as well as regular office one.
The issue never went away.
It worked at first?
Same computer?

I think so, yes. I've had the same computer for a long time and played a lot of tf2 (probably crossed the 1k hours threshhold) and the game worked perfectly fine.

But at some point I just stopped being able to walk diagonally. I really have no idea what could've caused this, sadly.
I haven't changed my PC in a long time btw.

Do you have any programs that alter keyboard behavior?
I'm assuming the keyboard connects via USB? Can you try plugging it into a different port and see if you get different results?

Yes, but I have only installed it yesterday. I've downloaded KeyDominator2, a program distributed by the creators of my keyboard. I've though that the drivers for my keyboard might be outdated so I installed this thing (it updates all the "bloody" series keyboards' drivers).

But installing this thing has not changed anything: I could not walk diagonally before installing it, and also after installing it.

Like I said, my keyboard works perfectly fine outside source engine games (I've performed numerous tests in other games alongside keyboard checks)

But, I did just reconnect my usb keyboard to another port, just in case.
It changed nothing though.
(That means the keyboard works fine outside tf2 and other source games. But when I started playing tf2 I still could not move diagonally)

Just trying to rule out something else that wasn't already mentioned.
Have you tried the keyboard and game on another computer?

Nope. Don't have enough cash to own 2 PCs that could handle vidja games. This PC's all I've got

If no one else has that problem in the forum of the games,
it probably is your windows installation.

Thats the only conclusion one can make from the distance without other tests.

I've just reinstalled windows 10 and redownloaded steam alongside tf2.

...this did not help at all.
You probably tried this, but, disable the Steam cloud for your game (right-click title in Steam library, properties, update-tab, cloud check-box), unsubscribe from any mods (probably in-game or workshop pages), and then reset the controls to default (in-game). If you have the time, also verify integrity of files afterwards. (right-click title in library, properties, local files, verify integrity of files.)
