Portal 2 keeps crashing due to a memory issue.
Thank you for your response on this issue and the original system information and logs you've provided. Investigating into these areas, the issues or crashes you are experiencing are caused by insufficient system memory used to run the game with your chosen video quality settings. This may be caused by a lack of physical memory, running too many processes at the same time, or potentially memory leaks.

A good first step is to run fewer programs while playing the game. You can accomplish this by opening your Task Manager and manually closing unnecessary processes. After doing this, please launch the game and go to 'Options' > 'Video Settings' > 'Advanced Video Options' and change Model/Texture Detail level to 'Low'. You may also try disabling Multicore Rendering and Anti-Aliasing. After disabling these, please restart the game and test the issue again.

We recommend reading our Troubleshooting Game Performance Issues article as it has important information that may help you run the game better on your hardware. If the information in the article does not help improve your in-game performance we can only suggest that you increase the amount of memory in your computer or continue adjusting your in-game options to find acceptable settings for your hardware.

Best Regards,
Chris

I did everything they said, and it still crashes on me. Their reply was that they don't have a fix for me, and I should ask here and the steam subreddit (where I got moderated for doing so). Does anyone know what I can do?

Using Steam's own "System Info" in the "Help" dropdown menu would be enough info and there is no need to use the web for anything.

you sure you have right primary card seleted. ( see nvidia controll panel )

and full performance, if you are another laptop owner that run 3D games in Balance mode, use own profanity word, so you never forget it again. gl with it.

and then contact portal2 ( valve support and tell them, they have alot to learn about laptop they are not desktop pc )

and ofc. you have update all driver and bios at LENOVO support page, and if recall correcly you have app in startmenu that do this, under LENOVO folder

ps.
do not forget this is actual your mistake for not run in full performance , but as i understand it you seem to have been in contact with valve game support. and they are clueless.

ps
last tip that intel boost most work
CPU Brand: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz are you wont get past lowest settings and all game that require more will drop out you can always hear it work it throttle the fan and speed, and work as intended.

do contact that support and tell them this or link this, its almost everyday a laptop owner forget or dont know this.

and with so many or more steam account
Steam Now Has One Billion Accounts (And 90 Million Active Users)
its impossible to tell all and feel like a lost battle.

byebye im out.

You don't have your video CARD enabled, that's what the problem is.

Go into your Device/Hardware manager and find your video card. DISABLE the onboard HD Graphics 630 device, which should force the laptop to use your actual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

Disabling that made the game completely unplayable; it wouldn't even boot up.

Is the nvidia card broken? Did you install the drivers for it properly (manually go to the website, find the model of the card, and your OS, and download JUST the drivers, not the suite, as it's largely useless)? Because the drivers you have seem to be for the motherboard's garbage onboard chipset, and not for the Nvidia.
Iceira Feb 11, 2020 @ 6:36pm
some laptop has intel ( handle 2D ) and nvidia ( 3D ) work as one card, so you cant turn it off you dont have dual card you have combi card. ( laptop manual should say this if thats is what you have here. )

Nvidia controll panel - then PhysX configuration then see what BLUE Arrow point on and can you even select Nvidia card or choise nvidia there insted of auto.

if you cant change this or in bios menu , then you need to contact LENOVO , because game ask system and get wrong card as primary ( intel )

^^^ Yeah that must be a much newer 'feature' on laptops. :/ UGH.

Check the manufacturer, OP, because I got nothing, if that's the case.

Don't bump threads. Your answer is right above. Contact Lenovo about the issue.
