I forgot to mention I'm on Windows 10 already.
B𐂃 𐂃B: thanks! I tried to search the forum for my issue but felt quite overwhelmed. I'm looking into that now. Not sure I want to have to mess around in Safe Mode, but at least I know that's something I can try if I really get frustrated. But the virus protection could be the problem. I recently upgraded my Avast for stronger security, so I will check it out now.
Update: Yeah, it was Avast's anti-virus and anti-spyware causing the trouble. It makes me nervous having to make Steam an exception due to how small indie teams can get messed with by viruses. You know, if their computers take a hit, they might pass it on unintentionally. But really, if this is the issue then I have little choice other than to not play certain games. I'll just make sure to do manual scans of Steam's folder regularly. Thanks again for the assistance,
