Access Denied (0x5)
What causes this error? I've had it on two games today already. Neither One Way To Die nor Self Reliance 自我性赖 will launch. It happened for Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe about a week ago, and the way I got around that was using a fanmade application called OpenRCT2. I had to buy Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 to use that. So, I'm quite frustrated.

With the RCT games, I understand that they are very old. But the other games I've mentioned are not. What's going on here?

Edit: I should say I've already tried to run them as administrator.

RTD in particular is an older game so you should run it in compatibility mode. Also keep in mind Windows 7 is no longer supported on Steam, you should be on the latest windows update version for 10 to ensure compatibility with your games.

I know that RCT:D is very old. I tried all the compatibility modes that made sense. I troubleshot that particular game to death before moving to using OpenRTC2. Although, I admit, I hadn't checked if my virus protection was screwing with Steam and I have high hopes that will sort the issue for the newer games.

I forgot to mention I'm on Windows 10 already.

B𐂃 𐂃B: thanks! I tried to search the forum for my issue but felt quite overwhelmed. I'm looking into that now. Not sure I want to have to mess around in Safe Mode, but at least I know that's something I can try if I really get frustrated. But the virus protection could be the problem. I recently upgraded my Avast for stronger security, so I will check it out now.

Update: Yeah, it was Avast's anti-virus and anti-spyware causing the trouble. It makes me nervous having to make Steam an exception due to how small indie teams can get messed with by viruses. You know, if their computers take a hit, they might pass it on unintentionally. But really, if this is the issue then I have little choice other than to not play certain games. I'll just make sure to do manual scans of Steam's folder regularly. Thanks again for the assistance,
